The Office of Active Learning offers free undergraduate tutoring services through its Peer Education program. All currently enrolled UGA undergrad students can meet with a Peer Tutor who has successfully completed the course being tutored to discuss class content, ask questions, and share study tips and resources. Tutoring is free and available in the form of one-on-one appointments and study pods both in-person at locations across campus and online via Zoom.

Primary Goals of Peer Tutoring

• Improve student learning and content understanding across supported courses through individualized, collaborative tutoring. 
• Build confidence, communication skills, and academic self-efficacy in students serving as Peer Tutors through structured, reflective teaching and facilitation experiences. 
• Deepen Peer Tutors’ expertise through experiential learning. 
• Promote the expanded use of active learning approaches in courses supported by the tutoring program. 

Courses Offered

Peer Education offers tutoring in over 350 undergraduate courses, as well as for standardized tests. Below is a list of courses and standardized tests that are offered. New availability is posted daily.

What to Expect from Peer Tutoring

During a peer tutoring session, whether it’s a one-on-one appointment or a study pod, you will engage with a Peer Tutor to find solutions to problems, learn best practices for studying course material, and gain a deeper understanding of the course content. In order to benefit the most from a peer tutoring session, you will need to come prepared with material and questions that you would like to discuss with a Peer Tutor.

Tutoring Expectations

To ensure a productive and respectful learning environment, students participating in peer tutoring are expected to:

• Come prepared to engage with the material. Peer Tutors will guide your learning, but they will not provide answers.
• Help maintain a focused learning environment by being respectful of others and stepping away for non-course-related conversations as needed.
• Stay on top of coursework outside of tutoring. Reviewing material in advance and preparing questions will help you get the most out of your session.

What Can a Peer Tutor Help Me With?

Peer Tutors can help with:

• Ungraded homework assignments
• Exams or quizzes that have already been graded
• Practice problems and review materials

Peer Tutors cannot help with:

• Graded assignments
• Take-home exams or quizzes
• Test or assignment revisions that would result in extra credit
• Any assignment specifically designed to assess individual student knowledge
  • *Exceptions may apply if otherwise communicated by the Coordinator of Peer Education.
