Designate a continuum along one side of the classroom (e.g., strongly agree to strongly disagree). Learners are given a statement or question to respond to, and each student must align themselves single-file along this continuum.
Co-Curricular (experiences outside of the formal classroom but contribute to student learning) Please contact us at activelearning@uga.edu with an example to include!
Universal Design for Active Learning
Universal Design for Active Learning UDL and active learning share a common goal: centering all students in the learning experience. When designing an activity, UDL‑informed instructors consider how the activity could be open to all students while preserving the core learning goal.
Physical Considerations If physical positioning is not viable, allow students to indicate position on a digital spectrum.
Timing & Pacing Provide individual think time before positioning. Interpreting a spectrum requires reflection to avoid rushing.
Social Interaction Allow written position and reasoning before moving. Avoid requiring immediate verbal justification.
Information Accessibility Provide the question and spectrum labels in writing for reading and processing before responding.
Ways to Participate/Express Allow response by physical positioning, digital scale, raised hand, or written submission.
