Crowd Crumple

Students write either a question or response to a question on scrap paper. The paper is then crumpled and thrown across the room to another student, who reads the question and offers a response. Crumple and rethrow several times to gather answers.

Universal Design for Active Learning

Universal Design for Active Learning
UDL and active learning share a common goal: centering all students in the learning experience. When designing an activity, UDL‑informed instructors consider how the activity could be open to all students while preserving the core learning goal.

Physical Considerations
If physical movements are not viable for all students, offer an anonymous digital submission alternative (e.g., a digital form).

Timing & Pacing
Allow sufficient time to formulate a meaningful question. Avoid rushing the writing phase.

Social Interaction
Maintain anonymity throughout to preserve psychological safety and lower social stakes.

Information Accessibility
Post questions and answers online after class so all students can review the discussion.

Ways to Participate/Express
Allow submission in writing on paper or through a digital form.
